Biography

One of those cases where an artist's one top 20 entry is not necessarily their most significant recording. Evelyn King's place in musical (and chart) history was secured not by this hit, fine though it is, but by her 1978 single Shame, a 12" which entered the UK chart the week after the Top 50 was extended to a top 75, and hung around for 23 weeks without ever climbing higher than number 39, still the longest chart run for a single that didn't make the top 20. What's more, its lengthy run made it the biggest selling 12" single up to that time.

King came from The Bronx and according to legend was discovered while cleaning Gamble & Huff's studio. Do we believe that? Hmmm...

Follow-up to this hit was Back To Love.
