Kelly Marie
"Feels Like I'm In Love"
Entered Top 20: 16 August 1980
Chart peak: 1
Born Kelly Brown, Ms Marie won Opportunity Knocks four times under her real name in 1974, signed with Pye in 1976 and created a striking stage act supported by The Ebony Brothers. "Feels like I'm In Love" was written by Ray Dorset of Mungo Jerry and was originally intended for Elvis Presley, though the latter died before getting the chance to record it. The song was then released as a b-side by Mungo Jerry before being recorded in a disco version (b-booo!) by Kelly Marie, whose version topped the chart on its second release (the first was in February 1979).
Kelly also released an LP of the same title and a succession of less successful follow-ups, the first of which, "Loving Just For Fun", stopped just one place short of returning her to the top 20 and disqualifying her from the one hit wonders list. Phew, that was a close one.
