Biography
Mark Gane was lead guitarist and songwriter, and Martha Johnson lead singer of this group which also included another Martha, Martha Ladley, who went solo in 1981. They debuted in 1979 with "Insect Love". This hit came from the album "Metro Music", which also spawned the less successful follow-up single "Paint By Number Heart".
Some sources have suggested that "Echo Beach" is about a rehab clinic. In fact, it's just a song about daydreaming. Gane wrote it while employed in a very boring job in a wallpaper factory.

Martha and the Muffins - Metro Music
I recommend the "Faraway In Time" collection which actually contains the entire "Metro Music" LP plus bonus tracks, so is good value for money. In my humble opinion.
