Biography

Sussex-based new wave group The Vapors were fronted by singer/songwriter Dave Fenton and were championed by Bruce Foxton of chart-toppers The Jam. Their brief existence (they debuted on disc in 1979, had a hit in 1980 and split in 1981) spawned a classic ode to masturbation, though it also worked perfectly well as a novelty song about, er, turning Japanese.

The hit, number 3 in the UK, also reached number 36 in the USA. The follow-up was "Spiders".
